BULATS Writing: BulATsMAN's Key Advice
The BULATS testers have asked you to write BOTH an email and a report/ letter because they believe that THE TWO STYLES OF WRITING ARE DIFFERENT. They want to see that YOU CAN WRITE IN BOTH STYLES.
The email should be formal, but more CONVERSATIONAL in tone than the report. Obviously, a greeting like “Dear Sue” and a sign-off “Kind Regards” should be in the email but NOT in the report. Also, the language can be a bit more conversational, for example: “Thank you for your email of last Tuesday.” The report language should be more formal, and using the passive case (“the office is connected to the station,” “the idea has been popular among employees”) this will really help you here.
